Album Info:This is on the old Georgia & Florida main from Uvalda to Vidalia. Even though most of the ROW has been taken over by nature, much of the track is still in place. There are sections of the main that have been bulldozed, paved over or taken up, but mostly on crossings. The GA DOT now owns the ROW in this area, although it's pretty certain the Vidalia - Uvalda section will never see rail action again.

G&F main
Title:  G&F main
Description:  Looking north, with the bridge over Hwy 280 directly behind me. Just past the bushes is where the G&F at one time crossed the SAL's Montgomery, AL to Savannah mainline, but the diamond is long gone.

G&F bridge over Hwy 280
Title:  G&F bridge over Hwy 280
Description:  Looking south in downtown Vidalia. The bridge is gone now, as part of the GA DOT's Hwy 280 widening project through town. Several yards behind me is where the G&F crossed the SAL's Montgomery, AL to Savannah mainline.

G&F main
Title:  G&F main
Description:  Looking north toward downtown Vidalia. You can't see it, but the bridge over Hwy 280 is just past the bushes. The GA DOT has taken this bridge down as part of the Hwy 280 widening project. Since the DOT owns the G&F ROW too, it's doubtful they'll replace the bridge until the need arises. That "need" will probably never happen.

Track damage on the G&F
Title:  Track damage on the G&F
Description:  Looking north toward Vidalia, near Petross. There's a dirt road just in front of this fence. Over the years road graders eventually just plowed through the crossing, knocking the track out of place.

Description:  One mile north of Uvalda. MP136 continues to wait for the next train that will most likely never come.

Washed out trestle on the G&F
Title:  Washed out trestle on the G&F
Description:  Just south of Alston. This area stays wet most of the time, so it's no wonder after years of inactivity why the trestle looks like this now.

G&F trestle
Title:  G&F trestle
Description:  Just south of Vidalia. After years of inactivity, it still looks in pretty good shape. Sadly, it's doubtful this trestle will ever carry a train again.
